Outstanding Newcomer
excerpt from Energy Radiates
 in the East Hampton Star

         Among the outstanding painters in the show, Darius Yektai is a son of children's book writer Niki Yektai and the Painter-poet Manoucher Yektai, whose own major show at Guild Hall only three years ago remains vividly in the present.
         The younger Mr. Yektai takes pride in his father's influence and reflects it in landscapes made close to their house in Sagaponack.  Yet while his father's brush is succulently loaded with pigment, Darius plays it closer to the bone, making the bare canvas itself part of the statement.
         It is, however, in his series of dark self-portraits that he strikes out on his own mysterious quest for abstract image and for the subtleties of color as it sinks into black or persists in its struggle for self-definition.
